15 years and still going strong

In 2011 I made the decision to become a freelancer.

It wasn’t some long-held ambition of mine to work for myself, and I wasn’t desperate to get back to work after having my daughter. It was just an opportunity to earn some money while I was a stay-at-home Mum, as well as a much needed chance to use my skills and feel a bit more like myself again.

Fast forward to 2026 and I can’t quite believe I’m still doing it. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some brilliant people on some fantastic projects during the last 15 years, and have probably done some of my best work during that time.

Not gonna lie – there’s been a few lows too. Times I’ve lost everything and had to rebuild; moments I’ve discovered not everyone in business is as open and honest as me. But things always have a way of working out.

And while I’ve enjoyed the ride professionally, the biggest impact has been deeply personal. I’ve got to be there for my daughter as she’s grown up; there for the ‘injustices of the day’ when she comes home from school everyday and now emotional support animal/taskmaster for the GCSEs phase.

They say you work to live, not live to work and when I reflect on the past 15 years working for myself, I’d like to think that for the most part, I got that right.

Happy 15th anniversary to me.
